Subject: Ron Thorton on CNN


  Did anyone else catch the interview with Ron Thorton on CNN the other day?
It was a blurb about three new sci-fi series that are forthcoming -
Deep Space 9, Babylon 5, and Space Rangers.

  In case anyone hasn't heard yet, Ron Thorton is one of the special
effects guys working on B5, and uses LightWave to do all the renderings
of the space scenes for the show.

  The CNN article (which a friend was fortunate enough to get on tape)
only had a few seconds of Ron talking (he had a B5 hat on, sitting next
to his Amiga) and they commented on the fact that this is the first time
such a major project has been done using computers that are not much more
than home PCs. No specifics were mentioned (Lightwave, Newtek, nor Amiga).

  The footage from B5 was much more impressive than the shots from either
of the other two. I can't wait to see more (it showed a space craft approaching
the huge, sort of cylindrical shaped space station - the one pictured in
AmigaWorld).

  In case any of you fellow LightWave users still weren't sure -
"We're not hitchiking anymore - we're riding".
